The Georgian side will require a formal explanation from the Ambassador of Russia in Tbilisi, Vyacheslav Kovalenko in connection with recent statements about the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Abkhazia and South Ossetia in the context of the Kosovo problem. Vyacheslav Kovalenko on Saturday summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia. The Georgian side will require a formal explanation in response to recent statements by the Foreign Ministry of Russia. “We intend to continue to take steps to establish good neighborly relations with Russia, but these relationships should not be inferred from our territories”, - said Foreign Minister David Bakradze. Meeting with the Ambassador of Russia held a global director of the department Georgian Foreign Ministry Sandro Chumburidze. “We talked about the situation around Kosovo, and how it might affect the Abkhazia and South Ossetia” - said the head of the Russian diplomatic mission. Kovalenko refrained from answering the question, what would be the actions of Russia in the event of a unilateral declaration of independence of Kosovo, calling await developments. The Ambassador reiterated the preparation meeting of the Presidents of Georgia and Russia, planned for February 21 in Moscow, noting that the meeting will be held at the initiative of the Georgian side. According to him, February 22, Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili will participate in an informal meeting of leaders of CIS member countries.
