Saakashvili pledged to improve relations with Russia
Mikhail Saakashvili said that in the event of victory in the presidential elections in Georgia, which took place on 5 January, he intends to try to improve relations with Russia. “The first step for us is to look for new opportunities to build rather isportivshihsya relations with Russia”, - he said in an interview with reporters Monday to Reuters. Among the reasons for the deterioration of relations Moscow and Tbilisi experts call “pro-west” policy of Saakashvili and the desire of Georgia to join NATO. Saakashvili, according to preliminary data, winning in the first round of presidential elections in Georgia on 5 January, breaking the bar at 50% plus one vote. Currently, the CEC of Georgia has estimated 85% of ballots in the last presidential election, Saakashvili won with 51.94% of the vote.
