Today, Georgia elects president

Today in Georgia will be held early presidential elections. In the presidential race involved seven candidates - former President Mikhail Saakashvili, the opposition - Levan Gachechiladze, Shalva Natelashvili, Irina Sarishvili, Arkady (Badri) Patarkatsishvili, Giorgi Maisashvili and David Gamkrelidze. The reason for the early announcement of presidential elections as the events of 7 November 2007, when special police in Tbilisi to use force to quell riots that followed the multi-Georgian opposition protests. In the event that no candidate receives the required number of votes for victory, the Central Election Commission (CEC) appoints a second round of elections to be held two weeks after the first.
